What this face swapper actually does

Face swapping is the process of replacing one person's face in an image or video with another person's face while preserving the lighting, angle, and expression of the original. Done well, the swap looks like the second person was actually photographed in the first photo's setting. Done badly, you get the early-2010s "sticker-pasted-on-a-head" look that nobody wants.

Three model presets

Ethics, consent, and legal disclosure

Face-swap technology is dual-use. The same model that produces a great Halloween costume photo can produce a non-consensual deepfake. We take this seriously:

• Consent. Only swap faces that you have permission to use. Public figures in clearly satirical contexts are protected speech in most jurisdictions; private individuals are not.
