Concrete Poem Generator — Visual Shape Poetry

Concrete poetry (also called shape poetry or visual poetry) arranges words and letters to form a visual shape that reinforces the poem's meaning — a poem about a tree literally shaped like a tree, a love poem in the outline of a heart. The form dates to the 17th century but became a major movement in the 1950s with Brazilian poets like Augusto de Campos. This generator produces concrete poems by writing original lines and then fitting them into a shape outline you choose, preserving the form-meets-meaning constraint that makes the genre work.

Two production modes are supported. Theme-first mode is the default — you provide a topic ("loneliness," "summer rain," "running") and pick a shape that resonates with the theme. The AI writes 8-20 lines of original poetry, then breaks the lines into letter sequences that fill the shape outline. Shape-first mode is the inverse — you upload a custom shape (or pick from 30+ built-in shapes including heart, tree, butterfly, star, leaf, mountain, wave, flame, key, hand, eye, and more) and the AI generates a poem theme that matches the shape's visual meaning.

The generator handles three structural challenges that make concrete poetry hard to write. First, syllable density — the poem has to be long enough to fill the shape but tight enough to stay readable; the AI auto-adjusts line length based on shape area. Second, line breaks at meaningful points — concrete poetry breaks lines mid-phrase to fit the shape, but the breaks should still feel intentional, not random; the model weights for breaks at clause boundaries. Third, visual emphasis — the poem's most important word should land at a visually prominent point in the shape (the tip of a flame, the center of a heart); the AI is prompted to position thematic words deliberately.

Three audiences drive most use. Middle and high school English teachers running poetry units who need 30 example poems that all fit different shapes for student-facing handouts. Creative writing students working on portfolio pieces or assignments where concrete poetry is one of several forms required. And greeting card and gift designers producing personalized visual poetry for weddings, funerals, anniversaries, and other moments where shape-and-meaning fusion adds emotional weight.
