In an expansive, dimly lit, and abandoned space, seen from above, three intriguing sculptures capture the eye amidst the shadows. The middle features “Sculpture One,” a plaster creation resembling an archaic wooden bookcase, its slightly battered exterior revealing glimmers of a metal frame. The texture of its plaster and metal shell is palpable. Empty shelves await as a 16mm film projector casts a black and white video on its surfaces, depicting a half-naked Portuguese girl in an urban hat. To the right stands “Sculpture Two,” a six-paneled folding screen reminiscent of a Japanese Nanban, crafted from paper and accented with a wooden frame. Its plain, semi-open structure becomes a canvas for a vivid projection—a biblical figure in red robes and sunglasses against a serene sky. On the left, “Sculpture Three” presents a wooden puppet theatre adorned with Alentejo textiles, housing the diminutive "Bonecos de Santo Aleixo" puppets peacefully at rest. Despite their artistry, the sculptures are dwarfed by the cavernous room, where faint natural light trickles from small ceiling windows, mingling with the glow from the projectors to create a hauntingly atmospheric scene.
